A panel of award-winning writers with disabilities, African-American writers and gay/lesbian writers will discuss their adventures and obstacles in the writing world.

ALICE WOOTSON is the author of 10 romance novels. Her latest, Ready to Take a Chance, was released by Harlequin’s Kimani imprint. An award-winning poet, she is a member of the Mad Poets Society.

MARIA FAMA is the author of three books of poetry and the forthcoming Looking for Cover. Fama has read on NPR and in several documentaries. Her awards include the Aniello Lauri and the Amy Tritsch Needle awards. She teaches English at DeVry University.

ONA GRITZ’s second children’s book, Tangerines and Tea: My Grandparents and Me, was named Best Alphabet Book of 2005 by Nick Jr. Family Magazine. She has won the Inglis House and Late Blooms poetry competitions and was nominated for two Pushcarts prizes. Gritz writes a monthly disability column on Literarymama.com.

JANET MASON is an award-winning writer who teaches at Temple University-Center City. Her commentary airs on This Way Out, a syndicated LGBT radio show. Her recently completed novel, Hitching To Nirvana, has been widely excerpted and favorably mentioned in the Kirkus Review.

DAVE SIMPSON (on left) was the 2007 Montgomery County Poet Laureate and a recipient of the 2007 Ted Kooser fellowship. He has read his work on WXPN’s The World Cafe, at The Manayunk Arts Center, and at the Philadelphia First-Person Festival. Simpson has a master’s in creative writing from NYU.
DAN SIMPSON’s poems have appeared in Prairie Schooner and The Atlanta Review, among other literary journals, and he is a recipient of a Fellowship in Literature from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Simpson has just released an audio CD chapbook with his twin brother, David. He earned his master’s at the University of Pennsylvania.

MARILYN TYNER is the author of seven romance novels, including Step by Step and Love Is Not Enough. She is currently at work on her first historical novel. She has conducted writing workshops at libraries, conferences and bookstores.
